Hey there! 🤠
I’m Vaigunth Chakkarapani(you can call me Vaiggy/Vai :P) and I build digital products end-to-end, with the utmost importance for user experience. Since I enjoy problem-solving as such, I do not confine myself in contributing only to a specific domain in software engineering. I love solving real-world problems that have an impact on mankind and make this world a better place to live in. The advent of technology has paved the way for humans to solve heterogeneous problems with the help of computers. A series of inventions over the last couple of decades have fascinated and encouraged a large part of the populace to innovate solutions for complex problems and I’m no exception. In my perspective, software engineering is an art and my definition of good art is a well-thought, beautifully designed, scalable software product.
Outside my work, I keep myself up to date with the latest tech and best practices in software engineering. I love driving around and watching cricket. On my weekends, I binge watch movies and catch up with plush user experiences in dribbble.
Software Engineer II, Zeta
June 2018 - Present
Handled projects that involved multiple tasks and kept the stakeholders up to date about the status of the project at regular intervals. Reviewed the code of peers to keep up the quality of the codebase. Mentored freshers by helping them out in understanding the features of the product and the relevant implementation details. I contribute to Android, server, and web apps under Banking SaaS and core infrastructure.
Android App Architect, Vogo
April 2017 - August 2017
Built the Android app from scratch by carefully planning the design of the app by understanding various possible flows. Implemented the best practices in software engineering by building abstract and reusable components. Clearly delineated the functionalities of different modules and developed plug & play modules that could be integrated with any app with very few lines of code.
Software Engineer I, Zeta
June 2017 - May 2018
Worked on improving the user experience of the Zeta Android app by closely working with the design team. Built features end to end. Refactored some parts of the codebase for better readability. Actively worked on the stability of the app and improved the crash-free sessions from 97% to 99.9%.
Software Engineering Intern, Zeta
December 2016 - May 2017
Got my hands dirty with the voluminous codebase of the Zeta Android app and the relevant internal libraries used. Worked on minor features in different parts of the codebase to have a better overall understanding of the codebase as such. Revamped the payment flow for a better UX by reducing the number of steps needed to make a payment.
Software Engineering Intern, Juspay
May 2016 - June 2016
Was a part of the core team that built a framework used by BHIM(Bharat Interface for Money), the official app of Government of India that facilitates peer-to-peer payments using UPI(Unified Payment Interface) developed by NPCI(National Payments Corporation of India).
Chairman, Association of Computer Engineers, SASTRA University
June 2016 - May 2017
Initiated “Go Green” campaign in the department by completely eradicating the usage of paper for competitions held on the campus. Wrote web applications that aid conducting competitions online, in turn reducing the manual work and the error rate in evaluation. Helped the university rebuild a robust “Choice Based Credit System”(CBCS) platform that allows students to pick subjects of their interest every semester.
General Secretary, Association of Computer Engineers, SASTRA University
June 2015 - May 2016
Formed a team of SMEs in various topics inside and outside the curriculum and proactively conducted sessions every week to keep the students up to date on evolving technologies in the field of computer science. Built an Android app that allows students to register and get reminders about upcoming events.
Bachelor of Technology - Computer Science and Engineering, SASTRA University
July 2013 - May 2017
Met some of the interesting young minds in the university. Learned the basics of computer science and applied the learnings onto some projects that solved real-world problems faced by the university.
